Salary Negotiation Workshop

The Women's Resource Center Presents: Salary Negotiation Workshop:

Our $tart $mart Salary Negotiation Workshop coming up next week (flyer attached).
STUDENTS: to register click here:
National Equal Pay Day is on Tuesday April 9, so this workshop will be in recognition of this symbolic day.  Equal Pay Day is determined by how much longer women will have to work into the following year in order to make the same wages that men received in 2012.
A little background:
Wage disparity based on gender persists as a reality in 2013.  While the gender gap has narrowed since the passage of The Equal Pay Act of 1963, when it became illegal to pay men more than women on the basis of sex, data indicates that women still only earn seventy-seven cents for every dollar a man earns (AAUW, The Simple Truth About The Gender Pay Gap 2012).  For women of color the disparity is even more pronounced with African-American women earning only sixty-nine cents and Latinas a mere fifty-seven cents to their male counterparts (The WAGE Project, 2012).

The $tart $mart Salary Negotiation Workshops are a collaboration between The American Association For University Women (AAUW) and The WAGE Project. This curriculum was developed to train college women approaching graduation in the skills needed for salary and benefit negotiation with prospective employers.  AAUW and WAGE are currently the administrators of $tart $mart, now licensed at 13 campuses nationally and growing.  The workshop is three hours in length and designed to help women obtain fair and realistic salaries upon graduation.  $tart $mart workshops have been hosted at 165 campuses and the number continues expand.  We are now bringing the program to NEIU!

Thanks!
