DESCRIPTION

Position: Full Time Youth Worker

Summary of Role
  • The Youth Worker will provide support to Y.O.U's Summer Learning Program at Old Orchard Jr. High School in Skokie, IL.
  • This is an hourly position with a pay rate of $12.00 per hour.
  • Training is required and will be held Monday, June 4, 2018 - Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Youth Workers will be paid on an hourly basis for their attendance from 8:30am-4:30pm daily.
  • Y.O.U. Summer Program will begin on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 through Friday, August 3, 2018. Youth worker hours during this time are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm (40 hours a week).
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead daily workshops that focus on literacy skill development, relationship building, social-emotional enrichment, and sexuality education.
  • Lead daily enrichment groups that focus on art, STEAM, and/or sports and character-building.
  • Build positive relationships with youth that support their success and well-being.
  • Deliver group instruction in a safe and structured environment.
  • Supervise youth during pre-care, lunch, and recess in a safe, sensitive, developmentally-appropriate, positive manner.
  • Help youth build healthy positive relationships with each other, with adults, and with their families.
  • Engage with parents and family members as needed to support the youth.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior that supports team efforts and enhances team behavior, performance and productivity.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records concerning youth participation and outcomes as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience leading literacy, sexuality education, and/or social-emotional workshops for Y.O.U. elementary and/or middle school aged youth.
  • A deep passion for working with youth and families.
  • A youth development orientation, strong sense of teamwork, leadership skills, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of team members and youth.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, emotional maturity, and credibility; a demonstrated history of using good judgment.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and willing to drive groups of youth as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year previous experience working in a Y.O.U. elementary and/or middle school OST Academic Year or Summer Program
  • Bachelor's degree in or enrolled in school for relevant field (i.e., Sociology, Education, Social Work).
