Attend Obama Foundation Summit on 10/31, 11/1 in Chicago

The Obama Foundation is sponsoring a summit in Chicago on 10/31 and 11/1 which will welcome civic leaders from around Chicago, the U.S. and the world. The goal of this summit is to engage hundreds of leaders from around the world to exchange ideas, explore creative solutions to common problems, and experience civic art, technology, and music from around the world.

The foundation is saving a handful of spots for individuals through Obama.org.  https://www.obama.org/summit/ 

 

The primary target audience is "incredible young leaders who are passionate about social change and civic engagement" who are "active in their community, and will bring a unique perspective to share with other attendees". Many NEIU students fit this description.

 

Please note that applications for the summit close on September 27 at 6:00 pm.

These include a fellowship program (which sounds like a wonderful opportunity for early career faculty or alums 'who are at a “tipping point” stage in their careers') and a series of training days for individuals between 18 - 24. 

 

One of these training days is in Chicago on October 14.

FAFSA Completion Sessions in October

The following TRIO-sponsored FAFSA Completion Sessions will be held in October at the TRIO offices on the 4th floor of Ronald Williams Library.

STOP BY ANY TIME during the sessions listed below to complete your FAFSA. It only takes a few minutes. You do not have to remain for the two hours that the FAFSA advisor is available.

GRE Test Prep Course

This six session, 15 hour course created and delivered by Next Step Test Preparation will offer valuable content review and strategic advice to help first time GRE test takers as well as re-takers. This class will make use of official GRE practice materials as well as quality content created by Next Step's GRE team. Students will also have the opportunity to take two proctored GRE computer adaptive tests. The instructor, Stefan, has over a decade of test prep experience not only with the GRE but also the GMAT and LSAT. His teaching goes beyond simply reviewing content and answering questions--Stefan has the unique ability to help each student understand how the GRE is a reasoning test and should be approached critically, using logic and common sense, rather than simply brute force calculation. Coming out of this class, students will be able to tackle the GRE efficiently on their own, both avoiding traps and seizing upon shortcuts that lead to correct answers reliably and quickly. Students taking this class will also learn the value of creating their own game plan for the GRE based on their strengths, weaknesses and scoring needs. They will have all of the tools necessary for success on test day.

Travel To Italy During Spring Break!!

The Department of Art, in conjunction with the Office of International Programs, is sponsoring an international study tour of Italy for the spring semester of 2018. The two-week tour (March 10 to March 24, which is spring break and the prior week) will visit Venice, Florence and Rome, plus a day trip to Padua.

Students interested in joining the tour should visit the official website for information on the itinerary, photographs of tour sites, payment information and an application form. 

The application deadline is Friday, October 20, 2017.

Two information sessions have also been scheduled:

• Wednesday, September 13, at 4:15 p.m. in FA 114
• Thursday, September 14, at 3 p.m. in FA 252

Camera-person Needed To Livestream Tournament

Chicago Inter Handball Club is currently looking for people to livestream their tournament taking place Friday October 27th through Sunday October 29th at PE Complex on the NEIU main campus. The event will begin approximately at 1 pm Friday and run through 3 pm Sunday. We will need someone for approximately 25 hours over the course of the weekend.

This is what you will need to know:

 

- You will need to bring your own equipment.

- We will provide login info to live stream on our (Chicago Inter) Youtube page and share to our Facebook

- You can put a watermark on the video as long as it's in the corner and doesn't interfere with the game viewing.

- Chicago Inter will have all the rights to the footage but if you need to make a reel later, we can review what you can use.

- You will be paid for your work

2017-18 Student Handbook Now Available

The 2017-2018 Student Handbook has been published and can be viewed online here.

The Northeastern Student Handbook provides a reference for all students, faculty and administrative staff regarding policies, procedures and regulations in various areas of campus life.

The handbook covers key information about Northeastern, university basics, specific colleges, student academic and non-academic support resources and services, university expectations, policies and procedures, collegiate terms and the Safety and Security Information report.

The Student Handbook will help to answer many questions students may have during their educational experience at Northeastern.

All Northeastern students are responsible for reading, understanding and adhering to all policies and regulations outlined in the Student Handbook, including the Student Code of Conduct. A new version of the handbook is digitally published each academic year.

A PDF version of the Student Handbook and a link to the Graduate Student Handbook can be found on the Dean of Students section of the NEIU website.
