Save the date! Fall 2021 Virtual STEAM Career Fair On Oct. 28

The Fall 2021 Virtual STEAM Career Fair will be held from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 through the online career services platform Handshake. The fair will provide opportunities for students to learn about full- and part-time employment, internship and volunteer opportunities.

We encourage faculty to promote attendance to their students and for offices to include the fair on their department and program calendars as appropriate. We encourage students to pre-register for the Virtual STEAM Career Fair. Pre-registering will allow students to learn about employers participating in the fair as well as to have the opportunity to reach out to these employers and share their interest in speaking with them.

Students will also have the opportunity to attend workshops that will provide steps on how to be prepared for the Virtual STEAM Career Fair. We encourage students to sign up to attend one of the following virtual How to Turn a Career Fair into a Job Offer workshops:

If students are not able to attend these sessions but need resume writing help or would benefit from talking through how to prepare for a virtual event with employers, we encourage them to schedule a virtual appointment with Career Development at (773) 442-4680 or ocs@neiu.edu.

If you would like more information about the Fall 2021 Virtual STEAM Career Fair, please feel free to contact Valerie Olson in Career Development at v-olson@neiu.edu

Help Spread Awareness During Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Greetings!

I am sharing news with you of an event being hosted by NEIU K(no)w More.  We will be hosting a discussion event on the film, "Bystander Movement - Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots" as part of the teams efforts to spread awareness of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  It will be taking place on October 21st at 3:00 p.m. in LWH 1001 or participants can attend virtually via Zoom.  The discussion will be focused on the content within the film and having participants engage in dialogue about the relevance bystander intervention has within various social circles and institutions.  Discussions will be facilitated by members of the K(no)w More team that have been prepared to lead small groups.  In addition, representation from Student Counseling Services and Title IX will be there to provide support related to triggers from the discussion and/or the film.

More information about the event can be found on the Event page in CollegiateLink.

I am sharing this news with you directly as I believe you have the means to provide direct awareness to students that would be interested in such an event, faculty in which their course content has a connection or relationship with the topics of bystander intervention or sexual violence prevention, or provide an extra credit opportunity for students taking part in the event.

One last thing to note is that a hope we have is that we are able to get an abundance of male-identifying individuals to attend this event.  While all NEIU community members are welcome to attend this event, the content and dialogue will have a strong emphasis on male social circles.  In addition, part of K(no)w More's work with the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women grant is that we put an emphasis on engage male-identifying people in the work.  Considering NEIU's history with events of this nature being heavily attended by female or non-binary identifying people, it would be very helpful and beneficial to have males attend and provide their thoughts, opinions, and perspectives to refine our work.

Please send any questions you have regarding the event my way so that I may address them.  Thank you for your time.
