Martin Luther King Day Service Activities

Hey, TRIO Students! This from the Student Leadership Development Office. Activities for M.L.K. Day:

This year, NEIU will be participating in an MLK Day of Service (a day on…not a day off) with City Year Chicago. We will be doing a variety of projects at Lafayette Elementary School in the Humboldt Park Community of Chicago.

Students will work alongside community members to help transform and uplift the school. They will get a chance to work with community leaders, parents, alums and current students to help build community pride in its school.

Minority Internship Program

Academic and Career Advising is currently accepting applications  for the Minority Internship Program. The MIP is designed for full-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Chicago State, Governors State, Northeastern Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois Universities. Selected participants receive a $1,000 monthly stipend for one semester in return for completing a 30-hour per week internship and attending seminars at Chicago State during the semester. Selection is competitive.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Be African American, Hispanic American (Latino), Asian American (or Pacific Islander), Native American or Alaskan Native.
• Be an undergraduate with 60 or more credit hours earned and with a minimum GPA of 2.75 OR in a master’s degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.25.
• Be enrolled full-time.
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or its territories.
• Demonstrate professionalism and independent learning styles.
• Be able to intern 30 hours per week during the internship semester.

NEIU-El Centro Campus and Hermosa Community Organization Invites you to: Give a Child a Smile
Help us by donating a new unwrapped toy or new winter clothing to children that participate in the Hermosa Community Organization’s Afterschool Program. Register your name at the front desk of El Centro Campus, take a child’s name from the Christmas tree and, bring a gift to our celebration on:

This day you can meet the child you chose and see his/her smile! Or you can donate a toy for us to distribute during the celebration.
