Summer 2014 Internship Opportunity
The primary focus of this internship program is health related,
however, we now extend these opportunities to as many fields as we have
students interested.
The JOAN A. KRUEGER
PRECEPTORSHIP PROGRAM participants are, for the most part, students who have
completed their first or second year of college and are striving to ultimately
gain admission to health professional schools after graduation. The
program offers a vast array of services highlighted by student placements in
health and medical facilities throughout Chicago and other urban areas and
provides comprehensive mentorship activities.
The mechanism for the
delivery of these support services centers around a placement in an
experiential learning setting in health care delivery and/or research.
Participants are placed at hospitals, clinics, health provider offices,
educational institutions, and research facilities for a period of at least 100
hours in the summer following their first year of college. This is a crucial
juncture in the academic and developmental stage of CAHMCP students’ career
choice process in that they are afforded the opportunity to experience
first-hand the realities, professional demands and expectations of their
desired or prospective professional careers. In our experience, this is
the point where students confirm, re-evaluate, and sometimes alter specific
career choices after participating in this experiential component. We
deem this a critical aspect in the successful matriculation and completion of
graduate programs of our students.
