Friday, Sept. 20, 5-9 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 21, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 22 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 23 5-9 p.m.

Students will not leave the Student Recreation and Wellness Center for meals, so either bring a lunch and snacks or be prepared to order food.

Cost: NEIU Student: $200**; All others: $300

Pre-Requisites: 

Performed on the first day of class (students who do not perform pre-requisites may be ineligible to take the course):

1) Swim 300 yards, a combination of front crawl (free style) or breast stroke (may use goggles) without stopping
2) Tread water for 2 minutes, legs only
3) Complete the following in 1 minute 40 seconds (no goggles):

Swim 20 yards, surface dive in 7-9 feet of water to retrieve a 10 pound weight from the bottom, swim with head out of the water on one’s back with two hands holding the weight 20 yards to the starting position, place the weight on the deck and get out of the water (not using stairs/ladder).

Classes will be both lecture/discussion and in-water strenuous activities. Students should come prepared to do both on each day of the course. To earn certification students must attend all hours of the classes, complete a physical skills test to the satisfaction of the instructor, and pass a written final exam.

NEIU Ride With Uber Request Form: Deadline To Submit Is 9/9/19

Please note that the final day for students to submit an NEIU Ride With Uber request form for the Fall 2019 semester will be Monday, Sept. 9. This corresponds with the official add/drop registration deadline. All requests received after this date will be subject to further review for approval.

NEIU Ride With Uber request forms are available at the Welcome Desk in Village Square on the Main Campus, at the Welcome Desk in the first-floor lobby at El Centro, and at the administrative office on the third floor at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies.

Swim Lessons Start 9/3

Fall Semester Swim Lessons begin Sep. 3, 2019. There are still openings for Youth (ages 6--16) on Wednesdays at 5:45, 6:30 pm; Thursdays at 6:30: Friday at 5:15 and Saturday at 11:15 am. Adult lessons are available on on Sat at 12:00pm . and Thurs. at 7:15. Discounts are available for NEIU students, faculty and staff. Summer Stipend Grants Available

The National Endowment of the Humanities offers $6000 summer stipend grants for eligible individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Full-time faculty must be nominated by the university; all others who are eligible (non-tenure-track faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, retired faculty, and independent scholars) are exempt from the nomination process and may apply directly to the NEH.

To be considered for nomination, full-time faculty should submit their application to research@neiu.edu by September 8, 2019.

Part-time faculty and other interested parties who are exempt from nomination should contact Sharon Todd or Gala Pierce at ORSP@neiu.edu as soon as possible to facilitate their application submission to the NEH. The deadline for this year’s competition is September 25, 2019.
