The 2013-2014 ‘Tip Off’ Financial Aid Town Halls
2013-2014 Financial Aid Theme: RISE to the Occasion
Everyone gets excited about the ‘Tip Off’- fans arrive early to avoid the long lines and watch the opposing team practice jump shots. The NEIU Financial Aid Office invites you to a ‘Tip Off’ of the 2013-2014 Financial Aid process. Not much is expected to change by way of financial aid programs—even with the sequester. Actually there is an increase in the maximum annual award for Federal Pell Grant from $5,550 to $5,645. However, change does take place with the verification process!
Beginning 2013-2014 the U.S. Department of Education will identify students for verification by using five categories. In other words, not all students selected for verification will need to submit the same verification documents. How will this work out? We need you at the Town Hall! Some other topics for the Town Hall include the impact of withdrawals—not only on your financial aid—but on your academic transcript. The academic transcript is not only reviewed by the University Registrar, but also by future employers. You want your academic transcript to reflect who you are at your best. Withdrawals—whether ‘official’ or ‘unofficial’ can also affect your credit if financial aid funds need to be returned and the prior balance goes into collection activity. We need you at the Town Hall!
We have two opportunities for you to attend a Financial Aid Town Hall—we need to see you!

He seeks to develop socially relevant content while empowering others through the process of filmmaking. Beginning at the young age of 19 years old, Sharrief produced an MTV Movie Award-nominated film called The Spiral Project.
Years later as a University of Michigan alumnus, he started a community-based youth filmmaking program in Detroit supported by the National Center for Institutional Diversity. Known as EFEX (Encouraging the Filmmaking EXperience), Sharrief utilized this distinctive educational program to forge a unique filmmaking process that led to Bilal’s Stand, which premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
Sharrief’s additional credits include filmmaker of Mural (a feature documentary), producer of Fulfill a Hankering (a 25 minute 16mm film), and executive producer for the 2008 EFEX 16mm short film Taffy & Cigarettes, as well as several other shorts and video projects. Sharrief is currently in development of another feature that tackles current social issues, The Bottom Line, with an accompanying reality series to shoot in the summer of 2011. Today, Sharrief continues to direct the EFEX program, work as an artist-in-residence faculty member at the University of Michigan, and maintains his skills with the Michigan Ice Carving Team that he founded in 2002.
