Tyson Summer Community Internship Program: Apply Now!!
Internship sites have been finalized for IL Campus Compact's Tyson Summer Community Internship Program.
There are twenty different sites with Chicagoland nonprofits. Four of the sites are with organizations that are in neighborhoods close to our main campus or already have relationships with, including Global Gardens Refugee Training Farm, Hanul Family Alliance, Illinois Hunger Coalition, and World Relief Chicago.
Though all of the internship opportunities are with non-profits and social service agencies, you will see when you click on the link below there are a diverse range of experiences offered through these positions. These experiences connect directly to academic programs in all of the academic colleges at NEIU and provide opportunities for students to gain experience in the following areas:
- Legal services for immigrant families
- Hunger and homelessness issues
- Fundraising. marketing and event planning
- Providing tax and financial services to low income families
- Researching new private and public funding prospects
- Health and wellness programming
- Urban gardening
- Data base collection and management
- Literacy programming
- Creating new financial information dashboards and develop reports to improve contract tracking and reporting
- Nutrition
- Environmental issues
- Social Media and community outreach
- Adult Education and workforce development
- Volunteer Management
- Refugees
- Seniors
Interns in the Chicago area will work for eight weeks from June 18 to August 10, 2018. The pay for these positions ranges from $3,000 - 3,500 and is dependent on location.
To participate in the
p
rogram students must:- Be a currently enrolled, undergraduate student who will be returning to college as a full-time (12 credit hours) sophomore, junior or senior in the fall of 2018.
- Submit written enrollment verification from their college or university confirming the student’s enrollment status to Campus Compact prior to the start of the program in June (can include enrollment print-offs or emails).
- Must meet all the employment requirements of the hiring nonprofit.
The application process for these positions will be competitive, so students should apply as soon as possible.

Health Research Careers: Apply by 12/15/17
The National Institutes of Health MARC (Maximizing Access to Research Careers) U-STAR Program at NEIU is currently accepting student applications for one MARC Scholar appointment starting January 2018 and two appointments starting June 2018. To be considered for the January 2018 appointment as a MARC Scholar, please apply by 11:55 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. Applications for June 2018 appointments will be accepted until March 1, 2018.
The MARC program supports and prepares juniors and seniors interested in attending PhD programs in the biomedical and behavioral sciences upon graduation from NEIU. This program is not intended to fund students interested in pursuing just a medical degree.
Benefits
• High quality preparation for fully funded Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. programs.
• A $12,000 annual stipend for two years.
• 100 percent tuition/fees/health insurance waiver at NEIU.
Eligibility:
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
• Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Applicants are required to complete a Mathematical and Statistical Modeling Minor as part of their training.

Mathematics Enrichment Workshop Program Informational Session
- There will be an informational session about the Mathematics Enrichment Workshop Program on December 15th from 10am-12pm in the Mathematics Community Center (BBH 364) to discuss important changes starting in Spring 2018. Everyone is welcome to attend! There will be a presentation at 10am followed by a question and answer session. Please stop by and pick up a flyer!
- The Mathematics Enrichment Workshop Program hires math peer leaders for math development classes. This program also provides math workshops for college algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus I, calculus II, calculus III, and introduction to advanced mathematics classes that are run by trained peer leaders.
- There are important changes happening to the Mathematics Enrichment Workshop Program starting Spring 2018, including that regular math classes and math workshops will be integrated into one course. Please attend the meeting to learn more about these changes.

Math Modeling Workshop Dec. 15-16
The Mathematics Department invites the University community to the 11th Workshop on Math Modeling on Dec. 15 from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. and Dec. 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.in BBH 364.
Topics include: Modeling in the Sciences, Engineering, Health, and Cancer Health. Refreshments will be served.

McNair Scholars Now Recruiting!!
The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Scholars Program (McNair Scholars Program) is now recruiting students for Cohort 16.
Its mission is to provide support and assistance to low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation students to increase the numbers of underrepresented faculty and administration in higher education.
The deadline to receive applications is December 15, 2017.
If you have academic potential and are interested in attending graduate school, please feel free to visit the McNair Program office in B-141 or visit our website. You should have at least one more year of school left and not planning to graduate before December 2018.

8-Week Summer Research Fellowships
The Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (CHEC) Research and Education Core invite you to consider students with exceptional academic potential and encourage them to apply for the 2018 cohort of the CHEC Research Fellows Program.
The CHEC Research Fellows Program is a comprehensive summer learning experience for outstanding undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students interested in research programs in behavioral & social science, biomedical, and translational science who are committed to applying to graduate school or medical school.
The mission of this 8-week summer fellowship is to provide training, mentoring, and learning opportunities to recruit and retain underrepresented students in health and cancer research careers to advance cancer health equity.
Letters of recommendation are helpful.
The 2018 application will be live on the website mid-December, and the application deadline is February 28, 2018.
The Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC) is a National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer partnership led by the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, Northeastern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
