This academic year Sarah Orlofske will again be serving as the campus representative for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship. This is a national award and there is a competitive process for students to receive nominations from NEIU to compete nationally.
Eligibility is determined by the following criteria:
Full time matriculated sophomore or juniorRESEARCH career plans in Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering (NO MEDICAL Professions unless research focused, MD/PHD) 3.0 on 4.0 scale (or better)Citizen or permanent resident.This year there is a new application procedure and students MUST complete a Scholarship profile and pre-application (https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org/steps-in-process/) Our campus deadline for the pre-application is Dec. 2. If selected to proceed with the full application students will work on several essays including a research statement, similar to a grant proposal. Students already involved in research tend to have the most competitive applications, but previous research experience is not required.The scholarship evaluates student abilities to become future leaders in their field and examines not only their academics, previous research, but clarity and commitment to their scientific research career goals.
