ACLU Advanced Advocacy Program

The ACLU Advanced Advocacy Program prepares college-aged students for lifelong engagement in grassroots organizing, policy development, and legal advocacy through a week-long program from July 28 – August 2, 2019 in Washington, DC. Students will enhance their knowledge of civil liberties and advocacy campaigns through electives and seminars led by lawyers, lobbyists, community activists, and ACLU experts. Students will also learn about internships and professional opportunities in public policy, law, communications, and social impact work to help them prepare for a career in the law and public service. Advocate Aurora Health is offering meaningful internship opportunities through our patient navigation program called the Transition Support Program (TSP). The TSP is a nationally recognized initiative helping patients and families navigate the health care system. The program offers significant experience working directly with patients, families, providers, leaders, and community partners to assist motivated undergraduate and graduate students. 

We offer non-paid Administrative Internships at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.  Our position description is attached.

Application Deadline For GRE Prep Class: Fri, 4/19

Dear Student:

Submit your application to participate in the GRE Prep Class, coordinated by the SCSE (in collaboration with the McNair Scholars Program) by Friday, April 19 at 5:00 pm (or earlier).

The class will take place at NEIU on the Main Campus (Room: TBD) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Tuesday, May 21 until Thursday, June 27 with the Math Session from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and the Writing & Verbal Session from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Feel free to apply for these upcoming corporate sponsored scholarships for our Latinx students through the Hacu Scholarship Program:

Ford College Community Challenge (C3) - OPEN
  • Team of 3-5 students must be from the same Hispanic-Serving Institution and HACU-member school. To be eligible, each team member must be over the age of 18 and enrolled as a full-time student for both Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 (Spring 2019 graduates are not eligible). 
  • Partner with one (1) community-based 501c3 organization (their fiscal contact and a 501(c)3 IRS determination letter is required).
  • Proposal addresses an urgent and unmet community need in a tangible way (need must meet at least one category within the Ford C3 issue criteria). Proposal must include a project budget and budget description. 
  • Include awareness campaigns outline through the use of social media platforms or other approved mediums, to education the community and highlight project progress.
  • 1st Place Team: One (1) $10,000 grant to a community-based organization for project implementation and up to (5) $1,000 academic scholarships for students in the team.
  • 2nd Place Team: One (1) $7,500 grant to community-based organization for project implementation and up to (5) $500 academic scholarships for students in the team.
  • 3rd Place Team: One (1) $4,000 grant to community-based organization for project implementation and up to (5) $200 academic scholarships for students in the team.
