Food Pantry To Host Monthly Food Sample

From 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, the NEIU Student Pantry will partner with Student Health Services (SHS) to host a monthly food sample that will contain many ingredients found in the Student Pantry. SHS will provide healthy and delicious food preparation options that are also easy to make. Prepared food will be available while supplies last.

The NEIU Student Pantry is open to all NEIU students from 1-4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and is located in the Student Lounge (E 050).
We are looking for volunteers and donations for the month of February. You can volunteer during pantry hours or in the morning on both of those days to help set up the pantry. Sign up online for the February volunteer dates.
If you are interested in donating to the Student Pantry, our list of most needed items is as follows:
  • Peanut Butter
  • Granola bars
  • Canned soup
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Shelf-stable milk
  • Oatmeal
  • Tea/coffee
  • Canned tuna
  • Diapers
  • Baby food/formula
  • Toiletries (shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, etc.)
  • Plastic bags/reusable bags
You can drop off any donation to any of the donation bins set up around the Main Campus:
  • Advising Center (LWH 0027)
  • Angelina Pedroso Center (B 159)
  • Learning Success Center (LIB 454)
  • Office of Alumni Relations (Alumni Center, Building I)  
  • Project Success and Proyecto Pa'Lante (LWH 4029)
  • Student Center for Science Engagement (BBH 235)
  • Student Disability Services (D 104)
This semester the NEIU Student Pantry is also sponsoring semi-monthly visits from Illinois Hunger Coalition staff to provide support for students and other members of the University community interested in applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The SNAP outreach representative will be on the Main Campus (in the Student Pantry, E 050) 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. Those interested should bring a state-issued ID or driver’s license to apply.
