Latino Heritage Internship Program: Apply by Feb 7

The National Park Service's Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP) is designed to advance employment and community engagement opportunities with an emphasis on cultural resource stewardship and interpretation and  to help to expand NPS outreach into Latino communities nationally and develop partnerships.

The program is open to individuals 18 - 30 and military veterans up to age 35 or younger who are enrolled at an accredited educational qualifying institution.

They are looking for students who have relevant experience or a strong interest in areas such as  history, historic preservation, public history, museum studies, archaeology, environmental issues,  community relations, cultural interpretation,  anthropology or other related fields who ideally have bilingual skills (fluent in Spanish/English) and social media skills.

Those selected as interns will receive a weekly stipend of $400 based on a 40-hour work week, plus a commuting stipend. Local or park housing and travel expenses will be provided for out-of-state students.

Here is a link to many of the available internships https://latinoheritageintern.com/index.php/ai which includes this opportunity right around the corner at Indiana Dunes National Park https://latinoheritageintern.com/index.php/ai/191-indiana-dunes-national-park  where its clear they are interested in hiring someone with connections to Latino communities in the greater Chicago area.

There are also additional internships available through this program at this site hosted by the Hispanic Access Foundation  http://www.manoproject.org/internships

Please share with students who might find of interest. Its sounds like a great program that could help expand professional opportunities for our students. Many thanks!

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 P.M. EST February 7, 2020. Top candidates will be selected for interviews in late February and early March. Placement decisions and assignments will generally be made during the month of March.
